June kicks off a gorgeous time of year. As the temperature rises, the bikinis come out, and many of us long for some carefree fun in the sun. But thousands of women aren't dreaming of a mojito-fuled beach party. Their minds are set on something a bit more life altering. June is Bridal Season. Excited brides-to-be are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime -- envisioning love, happiness, and starting a family with the perfect man. But something ominous often lurks on the edge of bridal… Continue

Dinners at my house look more like a neighborhood block party than the average family get-together. My big, fabulous family comes complete with two former wives and eight children, five of whom belong to my husband, one to me, and two to both of us. Continue
As a stepmother, I've learned a few things over the past 20 years, not only from my own family but also from my friends' families. One thing I have noticed is that most stepmoms happily enter their new marriages with a sincere desire to…

A drug crisis is sweeping America and it's killing our children.
Parents be warned. We have now entered the culture of ''Pharma-geddon.'' Kids are sneaking pills, drinking alcohol, and using illegal street drugs at an alarming rate. Even heroin, once considered the last outpost on the way to junkie-town, is now disturbingly common.
Sadly, today's young people, obsessed with pop culture, may soon head further down this road. Teen mega-sensation Miley Cyrus… Continue

Buckle up and get ready! Here we go again with another round of celebrity scandals. It seems like week after week, another high-profile couple splits, and another celebrity gets outed for cheating. Gavin Rossdale and David Arquette are in the hot seat, so Ashton Kutcher, Mel Gibson, and John Travolta can all breathe a sigh of relief having the heat off their alleged escapades -- for the moment. This week's Celebrity Troll Award has to go to Brett Favre. A married father of two, Minnesota… Continue

I am thrilled to be in New York this week for the "Women Entrepreneurs Rock the World" conference (along with a Yankees game!). One of the guest speakers is my dear friend Taryn Rose. Talk about an inspiration. Taryn is a former orthopedic surgeon, and if that's not impressive enough, she combined her understanding of feet with her love of shoes to create a multi-million dollar empire built by necessity -- the creation of comfortable stilettos. This opportunity to network and exchange ideas… Continue

Many years ago, when smoking was more socially acceptable, a cigarette ad told women, "You've come a long way, baby." I always thought that if that's the case, why are they still calling women baby? But it turns out these pseudo-feminist ads of the 1970s were prophetic. We have come a long way, and new studies reflect a radical shift in relationship dynamics.
There is an upward trend of women with more education and earning power than the partners they date or choose to marry. This… Continue

This has been one of those hectic weeks where I've found myself busier than usual coaching women on how to survive their marriages with stepchildren, or more specifically, how to survive their stepchildren and stay married. Why am I the go-to person for such things? Well to start, after being a stepparent for 20 years, I have earned my stripes holding down the fort with our great big yours-mine-and-ours family. Between myself and my husband, we have eight children: one in elementary school, one… Continue

Wherever in the world Tiger Woods is, the one thing we know for certain is that he is in the doghouse - which is exactly where he should be. What I am finding shocking is the ever-increasing parade of smiling women waving their "I slept with Tiger" emails in search of their 15 minutes of fame. How is it that these women are not hanging their heads in shame? Since when did it become acceptable that women could cheat with a married man who had toddlers at home and think they should be able to… Continue

He's a cheater, he's a liar, and guess what folks? John Edwards is now the star of his very own sex tape! Unbelievable. He was running for president, while his wife battled incurable cancer -- and he taped his sexcapades! To think this man could have been our President. Talk about a close call for America!
I am still sorry to hear about the Edwards split. It's tragic to see a family broken apart -- especially one that has already endured so much heartache. On the other hand, even for… Continue

I'm starting to think I'm an anomaly. And I'll admit it. I run seriously out of step with our fame-obsessed, tabloid-saturated, "hook up" culture. I just don't get the nation's acceptance of casual sex and the rejection of the American family. I just read a new study which shows that the teenage pregnancy rate is up after a 10-year decline, and I am concerned for my daughters. In fact, I am concerned for all American children who are now growing up in an instant gratification, pop… Continue

Score one for the bad girls this week. Tiger Woods' mistress number one - Rachel Uchitel - has scored a new prime time television gig as a correspondent for the syndicated entertainment show Extra. A very enthusiastic Extra host Mario Lopez said Rachel "so impressed producers."
Wow. She "so impressed producers?" With what? The size of her breasts? Makes you wonder about those producers doesn't it?
This is a woman who cheated with the very famous Tiger Woods while his wife… Continue

woke up this morning to my usual routine. I made the children breakfast, picked up the carpool, dropped the little darlings off at school, and headed back again to start my day's work. After signing Oprah's "No Phone Zone" pledge, I chucked my purse and my cell in the back seat, out of reach, so I could minimize the temptation to hit the speed dial. Just like See's Candy and French fries, resisting the urge to indulge would be too difficult. Back home, I settled in with my green tea and checked… Continue

My previous Cleo vs. Cougar blog touched off a firestorm of debate. Who knew? Magazines picked it up and bloggers ran with it. I heard from self-professed cougars who love the moniker and embrace the lifestyle (and all the testosterone-fueled, hard bodies that go with it). I heard from just as many women who hate being called a cougar and were thrilled with "Cleo" as it more accurately represents their relationship dynamic.
Cleo is a word I coined in my upcoming book, The Real… Continue
